South Hunterdon’s National Honor Society announces new officers

Posted

South Hunterdon Regional High School’s National Honor Society (NHS) Chapter recently held its installation of the Class of 2022-2023.

The new officers are: Kylie Masterson, president; Logan “Bode” Dunn, vice president; and Julia Voorhees, secretary.

The South NHS Chapter has 37 members, selected by meeting the criteria of scholarship, character, leadership and service.

“I am ready to represent our school’s NHS program in the best way possible,” said Masterson. “I accurately demonstrate the four pillars of NHS in and outside of our school. I will continue to work hard and dedicate myself to remaining a determined member of this society. In school, I have multiple commitments similar to this position that represent who I am as a person. I am the captain of the field hockey team and also the vice president of my class.

Saying the leadership posts “show my dedication to being an active member of my society,” Masterson said that she intends to study business and marketing in college.

“I am super-excited to work as president this year alongside the other officers and make sure the National Honor Society is active and we get everyone involved.”

Dunn said that growing up playing sports, “I learned many things that contribute to who I am. Football taught me how to be a great teammate, hard worker and also taught me how to take losses. It has given me outlets to help people who are in need. I never turn down helping people out with their school work when they are struggling or a chance to help fundraiser. As the captain of the football team I find myself in situations where I learn lessons on how to face adversity and teach myself how to lead a team.

“I strive to impact as many people as I can with kindness and my own understanding of the world. I am a hard worker, great friend and teammate, dedicated leader, involved student” and said he’s “extremely grateful” to be vice president of the chapter.

Voorhees noted that this is her last year at South “so I am looking forward to the time I have left. In the past four years, I have been very involved in our school community. I have played varsity soccer since my freshman year and last year joined our new flag football team. Creating relationships with teammates has been my biggest take-away from South sports. I am so grateful for all the friendships I have made and I have absolutely loved being part of sports teams.

“Besides sports, I have participated in various clubs and organizations in my time at South. I have served as class secretary since my sophomore year, which has allowed me to create better relationships with my classmates, plan fun and exciting events, and ultimately learn how to work with my peers. Student government has given me the opportunity to listen to my peers and learn from them. I am part of Relay for Life, Peer Leadership, and I run the Blue Crew with a close friend. I’ve always given my all when it comes to extracurricular activities as well as my academics.”

After high school, she plans to attend college to study nursing.

The entire NHS chapter at South enjoys the talents and skills the new officers are bringing this year.
