Playoffs recap: Faith baseball falls in district final

Posted

No. 1 Delco Christian hit a bases loaded single to walk off with a 7-6 win over No. 2 Faith Christian in last Thursday’s District One Class A baseball final.

Faith (12-5) was seeking its fourth consecutive district title. Its last two district wins were one-run games over Delco Christian. Delco led 4-3 after four, but the Lions plated three in the top of the fifth, keyed by Brett Kling’s RBI single.

Quakertown also saw its season end last Thursday. The No. 12 Panthers (10-10) fell to No. 5 Boyertown 4-1 in the second round of the District One Class 6A baseball tournament. Daniel Schwalm and Vinny Pellegrini combined to hold the Bears to just one run through the first five innings. Quakertown knotted it at 1 in the top of the sixth when Anthony Rostick scored, but a Boyertown three-spot in the bottom of the sixth salted the game away.

CB East softball was eliminated from playoffs last Wednesday. The No. 13 Patriots fell 9-0 at No. 4 Spring-Ford in a rain shortened game. The Patriots (14-8, 10-6 SOL) tied for runners-up in the SOL Colonial.

No. 8 South Hunterdon hosted No. 9 Manville on Wednesday afternoon as the Herald went to press. The Eagles (10-9, 6-4 Skyland) faced a familiar foe in their first-round game of the Central Jersey Group 1 sectional. South Hunterdon shut out Manville 3-0 on Opening Day behind David Cooper’s 11 strikeouts and thumped the Mustangs 13-3 two weeks later in Mount Airy. Jason Sutton and Donald Gallagher each had three RBIs. Ethan Sutton’s 30 hits and 19 RBIs both pace South Hunterdon. The winner likely faces No. 1 Middlesex in Saturday’s quarterfinal.
