For Scott Adams, it was a moment to represent his sport.
Adams was one of 12 former athletes, coaches and administrators inducted into the Bucks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024 on Thursday night at Brookside Manor.
Other inductees included Chet Dalgewicz (Pennsbury, soccer, wrestling); George Eastburn (Pennsbury volleyball coach), Sandy Hart (Bishop Conwell/Conwell-Egan softball coach), Michelle Hollister Houseright (Pennsbury, basketball); Courtney Hudson (Council Rock, soccer, field hockey); Benjamin Luber (Council Rock North, basketball); Joanne Pendergast McVey (Bensalem resident, Archbishop Ryan, basketball); Pam Rosanio (Archbishop Wood, basketball) and Ed Walsh (Central Bucks East, boys swim coach).
George Collins (Bristol Township, coach, athletic director) and Paul Griffith (Neshaminy, wrestling) were inducted in the Legends category.
Adams, a graduate of Neshaminy Maple Point, played ice hockey on a unified Neshaminy club team for four years before transitioning into officiating. He was an official in the American Hockey League for 20 years, and an off-ice official for the National Hockey League for 25 years.
He is the first inductee for ice hockey.
“It’s unbelievable to be inducted,” he said. “To see some of the incredible athletes and coaches who have also been inducted, I’m honored to be included.
“For me, it’s a long time coming for hockey. I think hockey’s always been kind of ‘the other sport’ and I think hopefully this will start to snowball and other people who are way more deserving than I am will get some consideration.”
Tom Kane, a 2023 inductee for his career as the girls swim coach at Central Bucks East, accepted on behalf of Walsh, who is hospitalized recovering from brain surgery.
“Ed is my best friend,” Kane said. “He’s a great guy. He’s been there all the way for me and vice versa. He’s a wonderful coach and he was wonderful to coach with. We had a lot of fun. I’m honored to be accepting for him.”
Luber is currently the head coach at George School, where he led the Cougars to their first-ever Friends League title in the 2022-23 season. He is CR North’s all-time leader in points (1,969), free throws (560), assists (565), steals (236) and games played (111).
He went on to play at Penn State, then played professionally in the Israel Premier Division and on the Iceland Express.
“I loved playing with the friends I grew up with,” he said. “Those are the best memories. It’s great to be here and to be remembered and see it all come together for me in front of my family and friends.”
