Posted

The sixth annual India Heritage Day will bring the arts and culture of India to the Lehigh Valley on Sunday, Sept. 3.

The festival, presented by Saara Arts, will feature performances by singers and dancers, Indian cuisine, art activities, henna painting, handmade artwork and more. The family-friendly festival will run 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Allentown Arts Park at 24-32 N. Fifth St., Allentown. Admission is free.

“This year’s festival celebrates the beauty and vibrant colors of Indian weddings,” said Vindya Raghavachari, president of Saara Arts, the nonprofit organization that coordinates India Heritage Day. “The live performances and audio/visual presentations will give you a taste of our culture, which is rich in traditions passed down through generations. Stay for the beautiful grand finale.”

Food stands will serve traditional Indian and Indo-Chinese cuisine. Indian artwork, jewelry, clothes, scarves and handbags made by both local artists and in the villages of India will be for sale at the vendor tents. Activities will highlight the diverse artwork of India

Attendees are invited to hop in the wedding booth for photos and a customized frame hand painted by local artist Dr. Mandeep Singh. Visit the special audio-visual booth showcasing weddings of India.

Classical Indian and Bollywood dance performances will be presented at noon. The grand finale will showcase the beautiful bridal fashions of India at 3 p.m. DJ Arian from Lehigh University will spin tunes at the free-for-all dance party at 3:20 p.m.
