The healing power of poetry will be featured in an “open mic” poetry reading from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at the Doylestown Library, celebrating National Poetry Month.
Moderated by Dr. Tom Mallouk, Bucks County Poet Laureate Emeritus and author of several books, the theme of the event is “Poetry and Repair: Poems that Heal.” His forthcoming book, “Rupture/Repair,” is based on this theme.
“Poetry emerges in the mind and heart of the poet at the threshold between chaos and order in the life of the poet,” said Mallouk. “This is one of the reasons there are so many love poems and grief poems written. But any kind of hurt and the beginning of healing can produce lovely poetry. This reading invites poets to bring the poems that they feel are healing to a welcoming audience.”
Poets of all ages are welcome to read their work and/or listen to those who share, in an atmosphere that respects all readers. Those wishing to read their work are asked to preregister by emailing FriendsofDoylestownLibrary@gmail.com (“walk-ins” will be welcome, time permitting).
