Voices Chorale New Jersey (VCNJ) invites all singers to an open summer sing at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at the Music Together Worldwide Headquarters, 225 Pennington-Hopewell Road, Hopewell, N.J.
The event will feature excerpts from Folk Songs of the Four Seasons by Ralph Vaughan Williams in an arrangement by the contemporary English composer John Whittaker. Dr. David McConnell, artistic director of VCNJ, will conduct. Sheet music and refreshments will be provided.
The work brings together two elements of Vaughan Williams’ musical character: his love for English folk songs and folk carols and his support for amateur music-making. The cantata features 16 varied folk song settings, bound together in seasonal groupings.
Dr. McConnell plans to present this Vaughan Williams work, spread between VCNJ’s winter and spring concerts. In addition, the chorale plans to welcome the English choral composer, Will Todd, to conduct a selection of his compositions at the December holiday concert.
