TileFest '24: For the Love of Tile

Posted

Doylestown, PA - April 25, 2024 - TileFest ‘24: For the Love of Tile held at The Moravian Pottery and Tile Works in Doylestown, PA, on May 18th and 19th, 2024.

Experience the craftsmanship in the outdoor marketplace, featuring tile artisans, contemporary tiles made by vintage, and antique tiles by renowned makers and collectors. Attendees will have the opportunity to see live demonstrations, engage in hands-on ceramic activities, and embark on complimentary tours of the working history museum.

Satisfy your cravings with offerings from a lineup of food trucks, including the savory BBQ and craft beer from Great Barn Brewery, tempting vegan and vegetarian snacks from Dharma Bums, and cookies and iced coffee from Bam Bam’s Bake Shop. Adding to the ambiance, local band Wood Flower will serenade guests with their bluegrass jams.

TileFest '24 is proud to welcome back esteemed vendors who have been integral to the event for decades, hailing from Alaska to Florida, including Luna Parc, David Ellison, Barbara Schmidt, Marcia Hovland, Gary Quirk Studios, One Acre Ceramics, River Horse Studio, and Eartha Handmade Tile. Notable mentions go to Whispering Hill Studio founder/owner Mandy Baker, who has been a part of all 24 TileFests. Additionally, the event is excited to introduce new vendors such as OYA Studio, Robyn Sue Miller Mosaics, and Crooked Curiosities.

New this year will be a cadre of artisan tile setters — graduates of the Artisans Revolution in Tile (A.R.T.) class held last June — demonstrating the precision and art of creating hand-shaped mosaics.

In addition to the tile exhibition, educational enrichment awaits with partners from Penn State Abington showcasing students' work created during an accredited college course taught at TileWorks on Historic Tile Making. Young talents from a 4th-grade class in the Central Bucks School District will also showcase their creations.

Attendees can indulge in Moravian tile-inspired henna tattoos by local ceramist Paula Focazio and marvel at the intricate tile birdhouses by retired ceramist Tim Carder, featuring tile-ready bluebird houses, mailboxes, and even a custom Little Free Library inspired by Fonthill Castle. As a special treat, the captivating exhibition 'Ashtrays: Class or Trash,' organized by Peter Morgan, makes its debut following its inaugural display at NCECA in Richmond.

Moreover, guests can partake in two guided walking tours of Broad Commons Park and Salem United Church of Christ, both adorned with exquisite Moravian tiles and mosaics.

Tickets for TileFest '24 are priced at $10.00, with proceeds dedicated to the ongoing historic restoration efforts of this cherished site.
