Posted

Alyssa Bean had quite a busy weekend.

The Archbishop Wood senior won both of her individual events at the Philadelphia Catholic League and District 12 Class 2A swimming championships, both held on Friday and Saturday at La Salle University’s Kirk Pool.

PCL swims were in the morning, while the District 12 events were contested in the evening.

Bean won the 100-yard butterfly in 58.67 and the 100 freestyle (55.94) at the PCL meet. She also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay for teammates Brigid Johnston, Sarah Bean and Alicia Yerkes. The foursome touched in 1:49.02.

In District 12 competition, Alyssa Bean won the 100 butterfly in 59.89 and the 100 freestyle in 56.03.

The victories automatically qualified her for the PIAA championships, slated for March 13-16 at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium.

Bean has competed at the state meet in at least one individual event every year of her high school career. Her best finish was ninth in the 100 butterfly last season, one place away from the podium.

Wood finished third in team scoring in the PCL with 307 points and third in the District 12 Class 2A meet with 208 points.
