They know it’s not going to be easy. They know it’s going to be tangled in red tape. They know it’s going to involve bureaucratic pencil-pushing.
But they’re going to do it anyway.
What the Solebury Board of Supervisors is gearing up to do is get the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to name a bridge over the Paunacussing Creek in Lumberville after William (Bill) Tinsman, who died of cancer Aug. 6 at the age of 75.
Supervisor Chair Mark Baum Baicker on Tuesday said the plan is to ask PennDOT to name the bridge over the creek on River Road the William E. Tinsman Bridge.
“After checking with PennDOT,” he said, “we understand the procedure to be that such a request must go through our elected state officials whose offices are amenable to the undertaking.
“It involves the state legislature (assembly and senate) passing a bill and getting it signed by the governor.
So it’s not going to be a quick or automatic process but to me it is well worth the effort.”
The board unanimously approved a resolution to be forwarded to the state in support of a PennDOT bridge dedication in memory of Tinsman, “a lifelong resident of Lumberville in Solebury Township and a member of a family which inhabited the area for generations, was dedicated to many environmental causes, including protection of the Delaware River and the Paunacussing Creek.”
