Spartans split doubleheader with The City School

Posted

The Solebury Spartans got more than they bargained for in their White Out games against The City School of Philadelphia.

Several inches of snow postponed the Friday boys/girls doubleheader to Saturday ... but it was worth the wait.

The home Spartans topped The City School 66-59 in the boys basketball game. Although Solebury trailed by five after the first quarter, the Spartans outscored the Lions 39-23 over the second and third quarters to pull away.

Junior Makhai Anderson paced Solebury with 20 points. Classmate Tyler Simpson added 18 while senior Joell Idrovo tallied 17. Sophomore Ari Johnson, a Division I track recruit, added seven points to go with the 10 he tallied two days prior in Solebury’s rout of Mastery Camden.

Anderson, Simpson and Idrovo, who notched his 1,000th career point on Saturday, give the Spartans a three-headed monster to flummox opponents. The 6-foot-7 Anderson has at least one Division I offer and leads the Spartans in rebounds and blocks. Simpson averages nearly 19 points a game and is the team’s leading scorer. Idrovo paces Solebury in threes and averages just two points a game behind Simpson.

Solebury’s record was 9-9 (6-5 PJAA Blue) after Tuesday’s 71-59 loss at Life Center Academy.

The Lady Spartans (4-5 PJAA White) fell to The City School 42-25 and entered press time 5-6 after a tough 33-31 conference loss on Monday to Delaware Valley Friends. Freshman Autumn Turner is closing in on her 100th point of the year.
