Silverman Gallery presents “Trisha Vergis: Spring 2023 Solo Exhibition”

Posted

Well-known Bucks County native Trisha Vergis opens her Solo Exhibition this weekend at the Silverman Gallery of Bucks County Impressionist Art.

Join the artist for her opening receptions on Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Sunday, from noon to 4 pm.

Drawing and painting is something Vergis has done for as far back as she can remember. The spark was further ignited while at Ursinus College by artist and educator Barbara J. Zucker.

Even though her Bachelor’s degree was in Business Administration and Economics, the requirements to graduate included introductory art courses.

Known for her work as an artist and educator, Vergis is considered a master craftsman. Years spent as a woodcarver, gilder, chainsaw carver, painter, and gallery owner (in Frenchtown and Lambertville, N.J.) have given her remarkable experiences and wonderful stories, which she is happy to tell.

Since 1982, she has painted in Paris, Italy, Monhegan Island and islands off the coast of Venezuela, to name a few. Aside from her favorite places in the Delaware Valley, painting with students in Lancaster, is one of her fondest memories.

In Vergis’ “Mondo Lemon Wedges,” lemon is cut into chunky wedges, each piece turned to the light, propped up with hidden contraptions (erasers, rubber bands or string) and placed on folded pieces of contrasting fabric. Once the layering and lighting is adjusted, she begins. Her “Blood Orange Slices” and “Mondo Lemon Wedges” are “sensory delights – you can smell the splash of citrus, taste its juiciness,” the gallery said.

Alongside the Delaware or set up on a hill using her monocular, Vergis stands at her easel until she finds just the right view of her chosen subject. Vergis may be a quarter mile away with the lens bringing buildings into focus, finding a perspective that could not be achieved any other way. “The Kirk Farm, est. 1731” and “Uncle Joe’s Farm” are two examples that are included in the exhibition.

The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, and by appointment. Call 215-794-4300 for information. The gallery is located in Buckingham Green, 4920 York Road (Route 202) in Holicong, just south of Peddler’s Village.
