Bob Musantry, a 12-year Palisades School Board member, is resigning effective June 20 because he has his sights set on the high school’s vacant head boys basketball coaching position.
His resignation is set to be voted on by the full board on June 21, the same night that the board could vote to name him to succeed Philip Ham in the top boys hoops job.
“Bob Musantry has been a volunteer coach for the Palisades boys basketball team for many years,” said district Superintendent Bridget O’Connell in a letter to the Palisades community. “When the head coaching position opened at the end of the last season, Bob applied for the position and was successful in becoming the recommended candidate.”
District policy prevents school board members from also being employed by the district, so Musantry is prohibited from holding both positions at the same time.
“I would personally like to thank Bob for being a very strong advocate for public education in general and Palisades specifically!” O’Connell wrote in her letter. “I know that he did not make this decision to resign before the end of his term lightly because he truly enjoyed being both a member and leader of the Palisades School Board. I greatly appreciate Bob’s service to the students, families, employees and residents of our district and he will be missed as a member of the Board.”
Musantry’s current term expires at the end of the year. He’d already announced that he would not be seeking re-election.
He’d take the reins of a basketball program that went 2-18 overall last season and finished last in the Colonial-East while in the midst of a 15-game losing streak.
