Photo Gallery: Saudi Crown captures Pennsylvania Derby

Posted

Saudi Crown, ridden by jockey Florent Geroux, ruled at Parx Racing in Bensalem Saturday.

The 3-year-old ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.62 on a sloppy track, outlasting a late challenge from Dreamlike and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., to capture the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby.

As remnants of Ophelia blanketed the area, it was Jessica Paquette who also took Pennsylvania’s biggest horse racing day by storm, becoming the first female announcer to call a grade 1 stakes.
