Posted

Raritan Valley Community College’s Arts & Design department will open its 2023-2024 season with a performance by the Ukrainian-born pianist Ivan Konev at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

The event, part of the Mozaika Concert Series’ new season, will be held in the Welpe Theatre at the College’s Branchburg, N.J., campus, located at 118 Lamington Road.

The performance will feature music written by long-forgotten Ukrainian composers Victor Kosenko, Igor Shamo and Myroslav Skoryk, as well as the American composer Ned Rorem.

Dr. Konev has won prizes in a number of international competitions, including the Andorra International Piano Competition and the Corpus Christi International Piano Competition. An active performer in the United States and abroad, the artist has appeared as soloist and chamber musician at such venues as the Embassy of the United States in Moscow, Great and Rachmaninoff Halls of the Moscow Conservatory, Sundin Music Hall, and the Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis.

He is a member of the piano faculty at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He is a founder and artistic director of UWRF Piano Festival & Competition and Piano & Strings Music Camp.

The Mozaika Concert Series is designed to promote multicultural dialogue through the performance of music from the classical canon through the 21st century. Concert proceeds will benefit the Applied Music Fund for purchases of musical instruments and scholarships for RVCC music students.

A post-performance discussion with the artist will follow the concert. General admission tickets cost $15 each; admission is free for seniors and students. For advance ticket reservations, contact the RVCC Theatre Box Office at 908-725-3420. For information, visit www.rvccmusicprogram.org.
