On Saturday, April 15, the Doylestown men’s rugby team hosted the South Jersey Devils in a physical match in the first round of the Lentz Cup.

Doylestown took control of the game early on and played mostly in South Jersey’s half. Taking advantage of the field position, Doylestown took the lead 33-5 in the half, with tries scored by Jesse Capriotti, Eric French, Julio Marsiglia, Brian Stella and Kevin Hockings. Jeremy Ault converted four out of five conversions.

In the second half, after South Jersey scored two tries, with one successful conversion, Stella tagged another solo effort try with another successful conversion by Ault. As South Jersey appeared to have momentum again with another converted try, making it 40-24, Max Campo, Stella, John Nyogesa and Matthew Frederick scored to put the game away, 60-24. Alexander Willouer was Man of the Match.

The men’s side will hope to carry the momentum into their next game against Phoenixville on April 22. The match will be played at Phoenixville, Friendship Field, at 1 p.m.

The Doylestown Rugby Academy high school boys team traveled to Union, N.J., on Sunday, April 16, for a non-league match, and came away with a 26-21 victory. Try scorers for Doylestown were Andrew Gilroy (one), Owen McCarty (one), Gavin Koch (one) and Santiago Bustelo (one). Bailey O’Malley kicked three conversions.

The Dragons will play Cumberland Valley on Sunday, April 23 in an away match.

The Doylestown junior boys team defeated Blackthorn on April 16 in an away league match. The score at halftime was 36-0. The final score was 67-5.

Try scorers for the Dragons were: Mason Darrows (three), Joey Craig (three), Aaron Kelly (two), Marco Burns (one), Timmy Fuhrmeister (one) and Ben Kix (one). Conversions were kicked by Joey Craig (five) and Liam Harding (one). The next league match will be played at Downingtown on April 23.

In an away league match on April 16, the Doylestown youth boys team lost to Blackthorn. At halftime, the score was 5-15, in favor of Blackthorn. The final score was 19-27.

Try scorers for Doylestown were: Hunter Pulford (two) and Cross Cervellero (one). Conor Cassidy kicked two conversions.

The next league match will be played at Downingtown on April 23.
