Public property isn’t a canvas for personal messages

Posted

Three cheers to letter writer Denise Brown-Kahney, of Lambertville, concerning the Alexauken Bridge Spillway bridge (“Artistic or not, vandalism is vandalism,” March 28).

It was also my first thought —graffiti, whether artistic or not, is still graffiti.

The painting of all the side rails with rainbow flag colors to cover up other vandalism is vandalism. Destruction of public property and, yes, whomever took permanent markers and wrote “thank you rainbow painter” is also a vandal.

These are taxpayer-funded public properties not a canvas for personal messages.
