Program at Gather Place Museum in Yardley Saturday

Posted

A first-person portrayal of Susanna Warder, one of the documented slaves of Pennsylvania founder William Penn, will be presented at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Gather Place Museum, 188 S. Canal St. in Yardley.

A reservation is required due to limited seating. Requested donations are $15 for adults and $10 for elementary school-age children, who must be accompanied by an adult.

Proceeds will support continuing restoration efforts at the museum, an old African Methodist Episcopal church being restored by the Gather Place group led by borough resident Shirley Lee Corsey.

Reservations can be made and tickets purchased at gatherplace.org.

The monologue will touch on the lives of slaves at Pennsbury Manor, Penn’s summer estate in Falls, and is drawn from primary source materials researched by Mary Ellyn Kunz, a dedicated museum educator who worked at Pennsbury Manor from 1990 to 2021.

“Program attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the historical significance of this landmark estate,” a press release for the event stated.
