Pennridge impresses in huge SHSHL clash

Posted

It was the game every area hockey fan wanted.

Pennridge (10-0) and Council Rock South (8-1) didn’t both enter their Dec. 13 contest in Hatfield unbeaten. They entered unbeaten and dominant.

The last two Suburban High School Hockey League National champs, the Rams and Golden Hawks doubled up (or worse) every one of their first 15 opponents.

Ultimately, Pennridge got to keep that doubling up streak alive as it beat CR South 7-3. In a game with two high octane offenses, Rams goalie Jacob Winton stopped 37 of 40 Golden Hawks shots.

Jackson Mosley gave CR South a 1-0 lead but Pennridge blew the game open with five goals in a 17-minute span starting with 1:37 left in the first. Shane Dachowski got a hat trick with three second period goals alone. The second of Andrew Savona’s two third period power-play goals put the Rams up 7-2 midway through the third.

Both teams got back to work quickly. Pennridge needed overtime to beat a tough Central Bucks South (6-2-1) squad 6-5 last Thursday. The Titans held a 5-1 lead early in the third before Savona’s three scores and Kevin Pico’s power-play goal knotted it at 5 at the end of regulation. James Rush scored the game-winner in overtime.

Savona, Dachowski and Pico have combined for 123 points on the season; Savona has as many goals (22) as the Rams have let up.

The Golden Hawks took out their frustration on nemesis Pennsbury, beating the Falcons 10-2 last Thursday. Gavin Nisenzon had a hat trick as seven different CR South players scored.

Pennridge plays Pennsbury on Thursday while CR South plays CB East the same night. The SHSHL has Christmas week off.
