We sat at an old wooden table,
and shared some snacks.
She looked at me, at the sky,
the water, and the trees.
We walked slowly around the lake.
The path was covered with
soft, inviting, pine needles.
New spring growth
and faint color surrounded us.
When we kissed
she was soft and inviting.
Her kiss, her breathing, the surroundings,
were all familiar.
Other kisses in those pinelands came to mind.
Nothing else mattered at that moment.
I was fully present to her.
It is not always so.
Driving home she played some of her favorite love songs.
She held my hand.
The trees flew by.
I wondered which one of us will die first.
