At a packed April meeting, the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors was joined by District Judge Mick Petrucci for the swearing-in of several civil servants, including a new police officer and five new firefighters.
Police Chief John Hearn, in introducing newly minted police officer Victoria Azzara, thanked the board for its unwavering support throughout the process.
“I would like to thank the board of supervisors again for their tremendous support of the Newtown Township Police Department and the Fire Department,” Hearn said. “Their interest in the public safety of this community is a priority as indicated by their actions this evening. We cannot do what we do without your constant support, so thank you. Now, it is my pleasure to present to you our newest officer police officer, Victoria Bianca Azzara.”
Azzara is a resident of Warrington and a graduate of Central Bucks High School and Temple University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology.
She interned at the Bucks County Youth Center and Bucks County Detectives and graduated from the Temple University Police Academy in March.
“We are fortunate to have Vicki join our team,” said Hearn.
Following Azzara’s swearing in, Fire Chief Glenn Forsyth introduced five new firefighters joining the Newtown Township Fire Department and announced the promotions of two longtime firefighters.
“It’s taken us a long time to get here tonight as this night is being made possible by us obtaining the SAFER Grant for 2023,” Forsyth said. “We started in 2019 and in 2023 we were finally awarded the grant. With that, it’s my pleasure to introduce our new firefighters.”
They are Ethan Tecker, Megan Cox, Tyler Starkey, Daniel Burk and Lucas Rosenthal.
“With the hiring of the five firefighters, we have been able to extend our service to seven days a week with now having two platoons working in Newtown Township and in Newtown Borough,” said Forsyth.
The chief then had Newtown firefighters Joseph Martindell and Stephen Katz sworn in as fire department lieutenants.
With the swearing-ins complete, the board took a short recess to allow all of the newly minted public servants to have an opportunity to share the moment with their families.
