National Museum of Industrial History announces leadership transition

Posted

Kara Mohsinger has resigned as the president and CEO of the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) in Bethlehem, effective Aug. 11.

Andria Zaia, NMIH curator of collections, has been appointed interim executive director.

NMIH Board Chairman Charles Marcon expressed the Board of Directors’ gratitude for Mohsinger’s dedicated leadership and commitment to the organization.

Mohsinger, who served in the roles of chief financial officer and then president and CEO of the organization over the past eight years, has accepted a position as Chief Financial Officer at the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley.

“It has been a privilege to serve the community and forward the mission of NMIH. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for their supportive leadership and to the staff and volunteers who dedicated their time and talents to achieving the many accomplishments and milestones we’ve reached. The museum has a bright future and is in highly capable hands with Andria and her team,” said Mohsinger.

Zaia joined NMIH as curator of collections in 2016. She has a master’s degree in anthropology from New Mexico Highlands University and completed a bachelor’s degree in anthropology at Drew University. With a background in collections, education, and exhibit curation, Zaia has worked in a variety of museum environments for over 20 years.

Prior to joining NMIH, Zaia served as the Curator of Collections and Archives at the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society (NCHGS), where she played an integral role in designing exhibits at the society’s Sigal Museum. In addition to her background in museum work, Zaia is also a professor of anthropology at Northampton County Community College and specializes in textile manufacturing in the American Southwest and North Africa.

“Kara’s proven leadership and dedication to the mission of the museum have strengthened countless partnerships and educational programs. The foundation she has set with her commitment to the museum and the public we serve will support thriving initiatives for years to come,” said Zaia.

“We are excited to embark upon the next chapter in the museum’s evolution and have the utmost confidence in the staff, with Andria’s leadership and experience, to face the challenges and opportunities ahead,” said Marcon.
