Cooking school for children to open in Yardley

Posted

“MasterChef Junior” returns to FOX this week with Season 9 of the cooking competition series featuring chef Gordon Ramsay and a panel of judges.

The series showcases the most talented home cooks in the country between ages 8 and 13 competing to win $100,000. By Season 10, could Ramsay be welcoming a budding chef from Bucks County to the competition? It could happen, say the owners of Young Chefs Academy, a cooking school for kids and teens preparing to open its doors in Lower Makefield Township in a few months.

“Our consistent weekly classes at Young Chefs Academy will go beyond most kids’ cooking programs to teach real culinary skills,” said Yardley resident Anne Moyer, who is opening the Yardley/Lower Makefield academy with her husband, Matt Moyer. “Each week’s skills will build upon the last and our students will progress over time into more complex food preparation and presentation.”

With classes grouped to meet kids at their level of experience and comfort in the kitchen, Young Chefs Academy members will be a part of the school’s KinderCooks, JuniorChefs, or SeniorChefs program and have the opportunity to progress through the curriculum, earn badges for new knowledge, and attain the elite item that signifies mastery of the entire course: a black chef coat. Along the way, students may find themselves gaining more than just culinary experience as they unleash their creativity and tackle new challenges.

“At every step, cooking dishes of varying complexity will build kids’ confidence in and out of the kitchen. They’ll also pick up valuable lessons about where food comes from, nutrition, and the value of teamwork,” Moyer said.

In addition to weekly classes, Young Chefs Academy will offer birthday parties and summer camps, as well as holiday workshops, private group events, and special opportunities for families and adults to sharpen their skills in a fun, relaxed environment.

“Whether it’s classes, camps, parties or workshops, our goal is to produce rewarding enrichment opportunities that kids and parents love,” Moyer stated.

Young Chefs Academy will be located in the Makefield Executive Quarters complex at 301 Oxford Valley Road, Suite 804, Yardley. Class registration and party bookings will become available this summer ahead of the academy’s grand opening in September.
