Local historian offers walking tour of Yardley

Posted

The Yardley Historical Association will hold a guided walking tour of the borough’s downtown area Sunday May 19.

Beginning at the Old Library by Lake Afton on West Afton Avenue at 2 p.m., the hour-long tour will highlight how Yardley has changed over the last five centuries, growing from a single grist mill on Brock Creek to a thriving, diverse community.

Historian Charlie Thomforde will touch on the Yardleyville Bridge, the Delaware Canal, the railroad, runaway streetcars, two competing small-town fire companies and other topics while leading the leisurely walk through town.

A $10 donation is requested. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 215-208-1154 or by sending an email to info@yardleyhistory.org.
