Chamber music fans in Bucks County can expect a treat as their favorite musicians return to the stage this weekend to play works by Beethoven, Poulenc, and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Felix’ sister.
This first concert of Lenape Chamber Ensemble’s spring season will be held Friday, March 1, at 8:15 p.m. at the historic Upper Tinicum Lutheran Church on Route 32 in Upper Black Eddy, and repeated Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at Delaware Valley University’s Life Sciences Building on New Britain Road in Doylestown.
Performing Beethoven’s “String Quartet, Opus 18, No. 3” will be Israeli violinist Kobi Malkin, noted soloist with orchestras in Haifa and Jerusalem; violinist Katie Hyun, Astral artist with the Amphion String Quartet; Dana Kelley, violist with the Orpheus and St. Paul Chamber Orchestras; and Alberto Parrini, principal cellist with the Northeastern PA Philharmonic.
Prizewinning pianist and Lenape favorite Marcantonio Barone joins Hyun in Poulenc’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano, FP 119,” written in 1943.
When Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel wrote her “Piano Trio in D minor, opus 11” in 1846, her family did not take it to a publisher until after her death in 1847. The Trio is full of romantic lyricism and song.
Included with the concerts, members of the audience may enjoy refreshments and meet and chat with the musicians. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $5 for children, and will be available at the door or by calling 610-294-9361.
