Now, in September,
now, before it is too late,
take off your shoes and walk out
into the garden.
Walk out into the garden
and if the sun be shining,
let it soak through your clothes
into your skin,
and if it be cloudy and chill,
feel the damp ground loving
the soles of your feet.
The soles of your feet press
the big Earth and it
presses back. Now,
let the garden act upon you
while it still can.
Now, in September,
notice the changing light,
how it is different even
from last year, how
your noticing is different.
