Hunterdon County Polytech will host the Bridging the Gap Job Fair, where students from the commercial arts and advertising design program will showcase their creativity and skills to address the design needs of businesses and community organizations.
The fair will take place 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 26 at Polytech’s Bartles Campus, 8 Bartles Corner Road, Flemington, N.J.
Local businesses seeking affordable yet top-notch design solutions are encouraged to attend the event in addition to individuals looking to purchase custom made artwork. Whether it’s a complete brand overhaul or the creation of attention-grabbing promotional materials, students are well-prepared to meet diverse design requirements. Additionally, they offer custom artwork including portraits, jewelry design, and handmade greeting cards.
Makenzie Weber is a second-year commercial arts student and owner of Accessory Umbrella offering keychains, magnets and jewelry. “Bridging the Gap is a program where you go through the steps to develop and have a functioning business at the end of it,” Weber said. “It gives you a leg up in the field by gaining real-world experience and artwork that stands out in your portfolio.”
The Bridging the Gap program serves as a platform for students to connect with real-world clients, facilitated through a partnership with local Rotary Clubs. During the job fair, students will present their portfolios and engage in discussions with potential employers, aiming to secure freelance design opportunities.
Teresa Diaz, instructor of Commercial Arts and Advertising Design, observes the remarkable growth of her students throughout the program.
“Bridging the Gap is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn what it takes to work in the creative industry. With the help of their mentors and clients, they learn valuable communication skills, time management, and confidence in running their own business,” Diaz said.
