Three members of the Hunterdon County Rug Artisan’s Guild have been accepted for inclusion in the 2023 Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs 33, a premier juried collection of the year’s best hand-hooked rugs sponsored by Rug Hooking Magazine.
The Second Place winner of this year’s Celebration three top finalists as well as acceptance in the Rugs Based on Original Design category is Dana Psoinas of Woodbury, N.Y., for “Pandora’s Box,” made with hand-dyed wool, sparkle wool, velvet, sari silk, and shiny threads on linen. This is Psoinas’s fourth appearance in Celebration.
Selected in the Rugs Based on Adaptations category was “Woman on a White Stallion,” made with hand-dyed wool and tissue lame fabric adhered to wool on linen by Jane Anderson of Clinton, N.J. This is an adaptation of artwork by Wladyslaw T. Benda (1873-1948). This is Anderson’s sixth appearance in Celebration, and she is now included in the Celebration Hall of Fame.
Also in the Rugs Based on Adaptations category, Therese Shick of New Hope, is honored in Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs 33 for “Squirrel,” made with hand-dyed and as-is wool on linen. (She used wool strips of many different colors and textures.) This is Shick’s fourth appearance in Celebration.
