Home-grown Southampton Community Band celebrates 25th anniversary

Posted

Southampton’s own Southampton Community Band is proud to celebrate its 25th anniversary of bringing music to the community and transforming the cultural landscape in Southampton.

The band’s two remaining performances are Saturdays, March 9 and May 11. The March concert is themed “Folkfest 2024,” in which the band will perform band arrangements of popular folk music from around the word. The evening will also feature a special guest performing group, Philadelphia’s own Polkadelphia. They will perform a high-energy slate of Polish-American, and German-American classics.

The band finishes its season on May 11, with its annual “Salute to the Armed Forces.” As is tradition, the band will bring patriotic and military classics to the stage, dedicated to all military personnel.

Organized by Centennial School District band director Gil Guglielmi and fellow musician and friend, George Lynch, the idea of a community band was unique in 1998.

The band’s director since 2015, Michael Regosch, had this to share: “I couldn’t be more thrilled to lead this band through its Silver Season. Our players work hard to put on the best performance for our patrons, and this year has been special. This particular group is one of the most dedicated I’ve been around and fun to rehearse as well. We are excited to have been so successful over the past 25 years and hope to be around for another 25.”
