Hockey: Rams, Golden Hawks, Titans look strong at break

Posted

Suburban High School Hockey League players will not settle their brains for a long winter’s nap.

But last Friday’s Central Bucks East-North Penn game shut down area hockey teams until early January as the SHSHL took Christmas week off.

Pennridge (11-0, first place SOL National) stayed unbeaten by surviving a feisty Pennsbury squad on Thursday. James Rush broke a 2-2 tie by scoring with 6:05 left in the game and his Rams skated away to a 3-2 win. Jacob Winton stopped 31 of 33 Falcons shots and Ram Andrew Savona scored his 23rd goal of the season.

Council Rock South (10-1, second place) closed the calendar year with back-to-backs. On Wednesday, the Golden Hawks steamrolled rival Council Rock North 18-0; six different Golden Hawks had multiple goals. The next night, South topped CB East 4-0. South outshot East an eye-popping 58 to 8, yet Patriots goalie Cole Breen made 54 saves in a superlative performance that kept the game close.

Central Bucks South (7-2-1-1, third place) ended 2023 on a high note, topping rival Central Bucks West 12-1. Logan Hood and D.J. Lindenmuth had hat tricks for the Titans. It was Hood’s first hat trick of the year. Lindenmuth’s 14 goals pace CB South.

CB West (1-9-1-1, ninth place) ended a tough week, having lost to Pennsbury 7-2 the night before; Anthony Dowd scored twice for the Bucks. He leads West in both goals (nine) and assists (six).

CB East (6-4, fifth place) and Council Rock North (0-10, 10th place) all had two games in a compressed span last week. CB East topped North Penn 2-1 on Friday in a defensive duel. Charlie Keiser and Alex Wilson scored 51 seconds apart in the second period to put the Patriots up 2-0. Breen did the rest, icing 33 of 34 Knights shots.

CR North was far more competitive Friday night against Souderton than in the CR South game. The Indians lost 10-9, their second one-goal loss in three games. Ryan Keil’s power-play goal midway through the second period knotted the game at 5, fully erasing a 5-1 Souderton lead. Soudy pulled ahead 10-7 midway through the third yet North still nearly skated away with points thanks to two late goals. Nicholas Hahn had a hat trick for North.

The puck drops again next Wednesday when CR North hosts CB West, CB South takes on North Penn and CR South battles Neshaminy. Pennridge faces off with CB East on Thursday. Teams now start to go through the SOL National for a second time.

CB West beat CR North in early November 4-3 when Isaac Mays stopped 40 of 43 Indians shots. The Titans beat North Penn 4-2 on Thanksgiving Eve; four different South icers lit the lamp.

CR South dominated Neshaminy 10-0 on Nov. 15 behind Jake Weiner’s hat trick. The same night, Pennridge dispatched CB East 7-3; Kevin Pico recorded a hat trick and game-winner on the same goal.
