Epsteins will fund 100 scholarships to Bucks County Community College

Posted

A $200,000-donation from local philanthropists Gene and Marlene Epstein will enable the Bucks County Community College Foundation to award scholarships to 100 students.

The two-year awards are designed to cover unmet needs after all other forms of financial aid are applied, said Christina Kahmar, the Bucks County Community College Foundation’s executive director.

“The scholarship is based on financial need and award amounts may vary from student to student,” said Kahmar.

The Epsteins are longtime supporters of Bucks County Community College. In fact, its Bristol Township location is called the “Gene and Marlene Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks.”

"Figuring out how to pay for college should not be a barrier for a person who wants to make a better life for themselves,” Epstein said in a statement. “We want every student in Bucks County to know that there is a path forward for them at Bucks County Community College, and this scholarship will help you get started today.”

Bucks County Community College President Dr. Felicia L. Ganther expressed gratitude for the Epsteins’ generosity.

"Their support of our students enables us to stand firm on our mission of providing accessible educational opportunities for our community," said Ganther, who is also on the board of the Bucks County Herald Foundation.

The scholarship awards, which are geared to recent high school graduates from Lower Bucks County, will be announced by the college’s foundation by the start of the fall semester on Aug. 23.
