Gather Place Museum partners with Sesame Place

Posted

Gather Place, an old African Methodist Episcopal Church on Canal Street in Yardley Borough that’s being converted into a museum showcasing local African American and other history, is forming a partnership with the Middletown children’s amusement park Sesame Place.

According to Shirley Lee Corsey, head of the nonprofit Gather Place that is restoring the church, the Sesame Place initiative includes voluntary work from park employees focused on property upkeep and assistance at the museum. Recent visits and discussions with Sesame Place President Cathy Valeriano and other park representatives have spearheaded the partnership, Corsey added.

“I’m told this is the beginning steps toward building a sustainable community/corporate sponsorship/partnership with Sesame Place and Gather Place Museum,” she said.

Corsey added there is a “common goal of their support for the continued restoration and growth of Gather Place Museum” and the enhancement of its educational programs throughout Bucks County in the years to come.

The museum is currently open on weekends, while during the week restoration efforts continue through charitable and individual donations and grants. For more information, call 215-595-2722, email info@gatherplace.org or visit gatherplace.org.
