Football: Titans bow in state semifinals

Posted

When Central Bucks South went to North Penn’s Crawford Stadium on Sept. 29, it emerged with a 50-28 win. It was South’s fourth straight road triumph that was part of an 8-0 start to its season.

The Titans’ trip to North Penn last Saturday was a little less fortunate. CB South’s (13-2) season for the ages ended with a 49-0 loss to District 12 champion St. Joseph’s Prep. The Hawks will play District Seven’s North Allegheny for the PIAA 6A title on Saturday.

The Prep has advanced to every 6A title game since that class was created in 2016. Per Rivals.com, it boasts four of the top 15 senior and three of the top 12 junior recruits in Pennsylvania.

CB South won its first-ever District One title when it shut down Downingtown West 27-7 on Nov. 24. Offensively entering the Prep game, South rushed for over 4,100 yards, averaging nearly 7 yards per carry. Anthony Leonardi and Corey Moore (1,020 yards) both broke the 1,000-yard rushing mark while Owen Pinkerton (944 yards) nearly added a third Titan to surpass the milestone.

One highlight of the Prep game was bell cow Leonardi surpassed 2,000 run yards for the season, ending with 2,006.

Defensively, South brought its best effort in its most crucial contests. The Titans allowed almost the exact same points in their final three district games (13.3) than in their first 11 contests (12.5).
