Five doubles teams make districts

The first three rounds of the District One 3A tennis doubles tournament took place on Friday. Semifinals and the championships were held on Saturday. All matches were played at the Springfield Delco YMCA. Five area duos participated.

The No. 2 seed and SOL Colonial champions of CB East seniors Yevgen Kuryanov/Alex Knyazkov earned a first-round bye and topped Great Valley’s Will Otterbein/Anuj Awatramani 6-2, 6-4 in the second round. The Patriots lost in the quarterfinals to eventual runners-up Jack Barrickman/Ryan Megill of Unionville 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

CB West’s Ethan Maher/Elias Trichon, two underclassmen and the Colonial’s third-place duo, won their first round match 6-2, 6-2 over Perkiomen Valley seniors Henry Ye/Landon Raupp. They fell in the second round to eventual champions Voyin Markovic/Aaron Sun of Conestoga 6-1, 6-0.

Otterbein/Awatramani defeated CR North’s Sebastian Proulx/Matthew Brusca 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round. Proulx/Brusca won the SOL Patriot doubles title.

Quakertown’s Max Arkans/Tyler Osika were second in the SOL Freedom championships. They were defeated in the first round by Conestoga juniors Basil Lubiniecki/Francis Qin 6-4, 6-1. CB West’s Ruhaan Vaidya/Samai Kolandaivelu, the SOL Colonial runners-up and two underclassmen, were bounced in the first round by Garnet Valley seniors Braden Rogers/Vishal Brahma 6-4, 6-7, 7-2.
