If you love pinball, arcade, video and other games, a new business in Langhorne Borough could soon be one of your prime destinations of choice.
Co-owners Manuel Metsikas and Mike Smith opened Game Gallery in early April at 140 N. Pine St. in the Pine Watson Shopping Center as a kind of all-in-one emporium for playing, selling, buying and trading a seemingly unlimited variety of games. There’s pinball, arcade, Atari and other video games dating from the late 1970s up to the present, air hockey, Skee-Ball and many others. The business also buys, sells and trades in a wide variety of Blu-Ray movies.
For $15 an hour, $25 for two hours and $35 for all day, customers get unlimited play on all the various games. Everything available for play is also available for purchase, Smith said. Patrons returning within six days get $5 off all the various passes, he added.
So far, so good, the two partners said of the venture.
“It’s been really busy so far, not only the play section but also sales,” Smith said. “A lot of homeowners are buying pinball machines, arcade, Skee-Ball and air hockey. The industry is growing. Ten years ago, there were probably only one or two pinball machine manufacturers, and now there are more than 10.”
The Game Gallery name comes from a business Metsikas formerly owned with another partner that they sold many years ago. He and Smith were both involved in the games industry when they met through business circles and decided to start another iteration of Game Gallery.
“We thought of a company that would encompass the video game business, pinball machine business and arcade game business and bring it all together in one place,” Metsikas said.
Despite the big difference in their ages — Metsikas is 52 and Smith 23 — the two men have hit if off.
“It’s the perfect mix of experience and young ambition,” Metsikas noted. “We’ve never had an argument, never had a fight. Knock on wood, we’re getting along great. I hope I can serve as somewhat of a mentor to Mike.”
The Langhorne Borough Game Gallery is only the start of an ambitious plan for the future formulated by the two co-owners.
“We’re looking to expand to two or three locations and then franchise,” Metsikas explained. “This is our pilot store and we’re doing great. Once we hammer everything out and get everything streamlined, we’ll open our second location and then a third and go from there, and eventually franchise across the country. We already have investors interested in franchising.”
Among other functions, Game Gallery hosts camps, leagues and tournaments and is available for rent for birthday parties, corporate or family gatherings, fundraisers and other occasions. There are plans to host a weekly Madden video game tournament on Sundays during football season, Metsikas added.
“I like it, it’s really nice,” said Robby Gianfelice of Bensalem, who recently brought his wife Chelsea and sons R.J. and Roman to Game Gallery. “They have a lot of different options, and it’s better because you pay once and play and don’t have to keep worrying about tickets or change or swiping a card every time. We’ll definitely come back.”
