Doylestown run held in honor of heroes

Posted

The 9/11 Heroes Run took place Sunday at War Memorial Central Bucks High School West in Doylestown.

The run is one of many 9/11 events organized by the Travis Manion Foundation with the goal to never forget the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes, from the first responders who came to the aid of thousands of Americans on 9/11, to the service members who have served with pride since.

The foundation was inspired by the legacy of 1st Lt. Travis Manion, who was fatally wounded by enemy sniper in the Al Anbar province of Iraq in April 2007. For his actions, he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star with Valor.

At the Doylestown event, a 1-mile fun run was held in honor of 1st Lt. Colby J. Umbrell, a Central Bucks High School East graduate who died from wounds sustained while supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom in May 2007 in Musayyib, Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
