Doylestown Area FISH day of service to be held in memory of Frank Gallagher

Posted

In remembrance of longtime Doylestown resident and volunteer Frank Gallagher, Doylestown Area FISH is organizing “Thanks, Frank, a Day of Service” on April 20 at Chapman Park in Doylestown.

Gallagher, who passed away on Dec. 4, 2023, was the epitome of a community leader and volunteer – serving in various roles and supporting numerous organizations throughout Bucks County.

Not only did Gallagher serve as president of the Bucks County Bar Association from 1982-83 but was also a member of the boards of trustees of the Michener Art Museum and County Theater. He helped local Jaycees plant trees along Doylestown streets and worked with the Bucks County Symphony, The Doylestown Historical Society, Neshaminy Creek Watershed and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

One of his longest and most important roles was with Doylestown Area FISH, which he helped found in June of 1973 and where he served as president for 48 years.

Doylestown FISH provides short-term emergency aid to area families. Over the years the nonsectarian organization has helped thousands of people and now distributes over $100,000 per year to help neighbors in need.

The Chapman Park event will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and provide three opportunities to “serve” and honor the community including:

– Tree planting; creating a butterfly garden; or mulching (bring your own tools if possible)

– Providing non-perishable food items that will be given to the local food pantry

– Donating money to Doylestown Area FISH in Gallagher’s honor

Water and a light lunch will be provided. All are welcome and encouraged to participate.

For those who are interested in attending and would like to receive a tee shirt, the borough has created a Sign-Up Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4EACAD2CA3FECE9-47682605-thanks.
