Dock the pay of Congress during shutdown

Posted

A small faction of the Republican House is threatening a shutdown of our government unless Congress approves massive spending cuts. Many people — military, police, government employees, social security recipients, welfare recipients and more — will not be paid until spending cuts are approved.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Republicans, so let’s start by cutting their congressional salaries and perks. And all their salaries should be withheld during the shutdown. They should not be reimbursed once they reopen our government.

Let them suffer monetary loss, like all the others they affect.

Members of Congress sometimes forget that the welfare of ordinary citizens should be their first concern, not some afterthought. It’s time we treat them just like the average citizen.
