Designed for Nature Garden Tour highlights use of native plants, creative water management

Posted

Guests and volunteers enjoyed five Doylestown area residential gardens featuring native plants and creative water management on June 17.

The seventh annual Designed for Nature Garden Tour was sponsored by the Bucks County Branch of the Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association (WNF&GA) in partnership with Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve (Preserve). Volunteers from the preserve and from Penn State’s Master Gardener and Master Watershed Steward programs assisted as educational guides in the gardens, along with representatives from Bird Town Pennsylvania, the Bucks County Audubon Society, and the New Britain Borough Bird Town Committee.

Garden hosts Kristin and Mike Winters were this year’s recipients of the Preserve’s Landscaping in Transition Plant Grant. The four other garden hosts were Susan Delone and Lawrence Kennedy, Kevin and Susan Baker, Sarah Goodyear and Cyrus Morgan, and Jeff and Mary Jo Buckwalter.

Bucks Beautiful and the Doylestown and Lahaska Bookshops assisted with publicity and ticket sales. Proceeds fund scholarships and internships for students aspiring to help create sustainable environments for all living things.
