Delaware Valley University on Friday promoted assistant Mike Isgro to head football coach. He replaces Charles “Duke” Greco, who left the program earlier this month.
The announcement came Friday afternoon following a national search that ended where it began.
Isgro, a member of DelVal’s Class of 2010, has been part of the Aggies’ coaching staff since 2015 in various roles, including running backs coach, special teams coordinator and assistant coach.
“I am confident that we selected the right person for this job, and I look forward to the continued persistence and success of our student-athletes under his leadership, not only winning on the field but most importantly, thriving and achieving their academic goals,” said Gloria Oikelome, DelVal’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, in a statement.
She added that Isgro’s commitment to the institution and its students “stood out among the candidates” to succeed Greco.
Isgro played quarterback for the Aggies from 2006 to 2009, leading the team to 31-10 record, two conference championships, an NCAA second-round appearance and an ECAC South Athletic Bowl title.
Greco resigned from the DIII DelVal program to take the head coaching job last month at West Chester University, a DII football school.
Also a DelVal grad, Greco leaves behind a decade of success as head coach. In 10 seasons, Greco’s teams went 91-15, won six straight Middle Atlantic Conference championships, made six NCAA appearances — reaching the quarterfinals three times — and took two Centennial-MAC Bowl Series championships. He was MAC Coach of the Year four times.
Prior to being named head coach, Greco was DelVal’s offensive coordinator during Isgro’s years at quarterback.
