95 reasons to become a Phillips’ Mill Art Committee volunteer; the number one reason is fun

Posted

The Art Committee at Phillips’ Mill is a group of interesting people who collaborate to stage the annual Juried Art Show at Phillips’ Mill. Everyone brings their passions, skills, creativity, and good humor to organize the many aspects of putting on an art exhibition.

Dennis Riley, this year’s new art show chair, invites people interested in becoming an art committee volunteer to a friendly meeting at the Mill to learn more about it from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. Phillips’ Mill Community Association is located just north of New Hope at 2619 River Road.

The annual Juried Art Show has been happening since 1929, making this year the 95th and one of the oldest running art exhibitions in America. What propels it forward is the dedication of many longtime committee members joined by a constant influx of energy from new volunteers. Many lifelong friendships have been made over the years, and people new to the area have found an instant home and new community of friends through their volunteer work on the Art Committee.

At the Jan. 20 event, Riley will provide an overview of how the show is organized and talk briefly about the many projects and jobs committee members handle to produce the show.

Attendees don’t need to be artists. They just need to want to be involved doing simple things like checking-in submitted artworks, hosting at the gallery, helping set up and take down the reception, mailing invitations, etc. There are jobs big and small. It is easy to find an assignment that fits your schedule and availability.

It takes a big team of volunteers to put on this annual art show. Come find out how to be one of them. The history of Phillips’ Mill is rich as the “Birthplace of Pennsylvania Impressionism.” Being a part of the art committee means being a part of that history as it celebrates this exciting milestone year.
