Sixty-four students are set to graduate from the Bucks Basic and Advanced Fire Academy training programs Nov. 16.
Thomas Jennings, chairman of the Bucks County Community College Board of Trustees, is the keynote speaker. Matthew Hatrak, executive director for public safety at the College, is the master of ceremonies.
Forty-eight students will graduate from the Bucks Basic Academy and 16 students will graduate from the Advanced Academy. Graduates of the basic training earn five national certifications that meet the intent of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards 1001 and 472.
The basic training took place at the College’s Bucks County Public Safety Training Center in Doylestown and the Lower Bucks County Public Safety Training Center in Croydon. Graduates of the Advanced Fire Academy earn the NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter 2 national certification. Training took place at the Ottsville Fire Company.
Firefighter training is integral to the public safety of the region as the majority of fire departments in Pennsylvania are comprised of volunteers. The training provided allows the students to gain the knowledge and skills needed to serve in fire departments state-wide. The graduates reside in Bucks, Montgomery, Lehigh, Northampton, and Chester Counties.
