Upper Bucks County Technical School senior wins welding award

Posted

Abygail Jacobes, a senior in the welding technology program at Upper Bucks County Technical School, was awarded first place in the Welding Sculpture Competition at the Pennsylvania State SkillsUSA Virtual Conference.

She is the daughter of Anthony and Melanie Jacobes. She attends Quakertown Community High School.

Jacobes created a sculpture titled “Flowers for David” in memory of her late grandfather. The sculpture included three delicate flowers placed in a vase. In addition to creating the sculpture, Jacobes documented each step of the welding process in a detailed notebook and virtual presentation.

Jacobes is a Cooperative Education student trainee employed by Klover Construction. She is a member of the National Technical Honors Society, a first honors student, and has received the Most Dedicated Student Award in her program. She also has been named Senior Student of the Month for February 2021 and will be a 2021 Elmer Gates Enterprise Award recipient. Jacobes is OSHA certified and plans to pursue her career in welding after graduation.

She moves on to compete in the Welding Sculpture competition at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held this June virtually.
