Posted
This week we are featuring a participating artist from the Art of the River Towns Juried Show.

Art of the River Towns, presented by River Towns Magazine, was held Oct. 1 to 4, at Prallsville Mills in Stockton, N.J.

“J.C.” (Joanne Cestaro) Turner of Pipersville paints in the style of traditional realism softly bordering on impressionism. Her formal education was at Syracuse University School of Fine Art.

She then went on to study landscape, portrait and still life at the Ridgewood Art Institute in New Jersey with further portraiture study at The Reilly League of Artists in White Plains, N.Y., and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

A workshop with Rudy Coleo was part of her still life training as well as studies in trees/landscape with Patrick Connors. She was also trained in the art of Chinese Watercolor under the tutelage of Zhe Zhou Jiang of Philadelphia.

“Primarily a plein-air and studio painter in oils, she has been inspired by the rich history, architecture and the incredible beauty of the Delaware Valley,” she said in her artist statement. “Her most meaningful exhibition was an Invitational Group Art Show at The Cork Gallery, Lincoln Center in New York.”

Turner’s significant awards were: The President’s Award in Oils, Bergen Community Museum, Paramus, N.J., First Place Award, Images of the Prallsville Mill, Stockton, N.J. and the 20th Century International Asian Pacific Art Exhibition, Washington, D.C., Award of Excellence in competition with many talented Asian watercolor artists.

Representational still life, portrait, landscape and recently horses, continue to be important parts of Turner’s subject matter. Her work is in collections throughout the country and in Paris, France. For more than 18 years, her artwork has been shown in Canal Frame-Crafts Gallery, Washington Crossing, Pa. Turner is a member of Artsbridge, The New Hope Art League and The Arts and Cultural Council of Bucks County.
