The Art of the River Towns Artist of the Week: Helena van Emmerick-Finn

Posted
This week we are featuring a participating artist from the Art of the River Towns Juried Show.

Art of the River Towns, presented by River Towns Magazine, was held Oct. 1 to 4, at Prallsville Mills in Stockton, N.J.

Helena van Emmerik-Finn of Doylestown “loves to roam the surrounding countryside on both sides of the Delaware River to find the subjects for her pastels and oils,” she said in her artist statement.

“Animals, flowers and farms give her a variety of choices. Working both plein-air and in the studio, she tries to capture that opportune moment when the light reveals her motif at its best.”

The artist studied at the Philadelphia College of Art and participated in workshops with Daniel Greene and June Maxwell. A pastel artist for 45 years, van Emmerik-Finn has been an active participant in pastel’s revival as a serious medium. Her favorite subjects are animals and landscapes of Bucks County.

Her work has appeared on the 2005 Bucks Beautiful Garden Poster for the Bucks County Chamber of Commerce and she has won prizes in numerous plein-air festivals in Bucks County.

Work by van Emmerik-Finn and over 100 other local artists can be found and purchased on the Art of the River Towns Online Sales Gallery through Dec. 31. The online gallery features over 400 unique works by local artists. For information, visit Rivertownsmagazine.com.
