State Trooper involved shooting under investigation

A Pennsylvania State Police Trooper from the Troop M Belfast barracks shot and killed a 55-year-old man Sunday, May 23, outside a residence, where a confrontation occurred.
The trooper was dispatched at 2:34 p.m. May 23, to 940 Berger Road, Williams Township, Northampton County, for a 911 call, related to a disturbance in the area.

Upon arrival, the trooper met with the man outside the residence, and the trooper fired two rounds from a department-issued Sig Sauer P227 handgun killing the man.

Traffic was detoured from Berger Road onto Gaffney Hill Road during the investigation.

This officer-involved shooting is being jointly investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team and detectives from the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office. Assisting with this investigation is the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit and Williams Township Fire Department.
