St. Andrew’s Christmas Carols service set

Posted

“Christmas Lessons and Carols” will be presented by the choir at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 50 York St., Lambertville, N.J., at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.

The annual event is offered to celebrate the Advent and Christmas season. The format of “Lessons and Carols” at Saint Andrew’s follows that of the world-famous “Lessons and Carols” service of Kings College, Cambridge, England.

This year, it will feature harpist Rebecca Simpson, who will also provide music before the service. The choir of Saint Andrew’s Church will sing selections from Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols,” accompanied by harp.

Other music will include English and European carols, the Renaissance motet “O Magnum Mysterium” by Tomas Luis da Victoria; the early Baroque anthem by Andreas Hammerschmidt “Alleluia, Freuet euch” and a new motet written especially for the choir of Saint Andrew’s – “Christmas Agnus Dei” by Jonathan Dawe.

Carols for congregation and choir will include, “O Come all ye faithful” and “Once in Royal David’s City,” accompanied on the famous Hook & Hastings pipe organ at Saint Andrew’s. All are welcome. Parking is on the street.
