The Covid-19 quarantine has changed how churches have had to adapt to connect with faithful followers.
Traditionally, Holy Week, the week before Easter, is a solemn period devoted to following the passion of Jesus, beginning with Palm Sunday, followed by Holy Thursday, Good Friday, leading to Easter Sunday.
This year, like other churches and houses of worship, St. John the Evangelist in Lambertville, N.J., was presented with the quandary of how to continue to serve its worshipers’ need to connect with their faith and other parishioners while in quarantine.
The 21st century solution was to live-stream Masses and other services. The Rev. Robert Kolakowski, pastor, assisted by a very limited and socially-distanced company of readers, cantors and parish organist Sook Hyun Kim, was able to minister to the parishioners.
Throughout the Easter season, his homilies have contained messages of hope, community, and trust in the grace of God, binding the St. John’s family of parishioners into the feeling of being one, instead of many, alone.
