Radio play at St. Andrew’s Yardley aids area pantry

Posted

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Yardley turned into the fictional Bedford Falls, N.Y., recently as “It’s a Wonderful Life Radio Play” was presented by a cast composed primarily of parishioners.

As a result, audience donations raised $1,284 for the Bucks County Housing Group’s Penndel Food Pantry.

Gary Sloan, a professional actor and director and a Lower Makefield resident, came up with the idea and directed the production.

“I think the spirit of Christmas and the play not only benefited Penndel but also our own hearts and minds,” Sloan said.

This the first time the Yardley church had done this production but Sloan hopes it becomes an annual event.

The radio play is based on the original short story, “The Greatest Gift,” by Philip Van Doren Stern.

It was later produced into the well -known film staring James Stewart and Donna Reed, directed by Frank Capra, and adapted to radio by Tony Palermo.
