New Torah dedicated at Kehilat HaNahar

Posted

The dedication of a new Torah was held Dec. 18, at Kehilat HaNahar, The Little Shul by the River in New Hope, led by scribe and Jewish educator Julie Seltzer.

Seltzer introduced the Torah scribe’s toolbox, including parchment, ink and quills. Participants, including adults and children of all ages, examined pages of the new Torah and together discovered the best-kept secrets of the scribing trade.

Seltzer then offered hands-on calligraphy practice to the dozens of adults and children in attendance. The dedication concluded with The Little Shul by the River Band playing music to celebrate Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.

Seltzer is one of the first women known to have written a Torah. She is currently working on her third Torah and writing a memoir about her spiritual journey.
