Nassau Club slates “Reality Revisited” talk by Charles David Viera

Posted

The Nassau Club presents a gallery talk by Bucks County artist Charles David Viera from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, June 14.
“Gallery Talk: Reality Revisited: Paintings by Charles David Viera,” at the Nassau Club, 6 Mercer St., Princeton, N.J., is free and open to the public.

Viera will discuss his current exhibition, “Reality Revisited: Paintings by Charles David Viera,” which is on display at the Nassau Club through Sept. 26. Viera’s artwork has been exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum, the Nassau County Museum and locally at the Ellarslie Museum in Trenton, N.J. He is a longtime instructor at the Arts Council of Princeton.

An artist for over 40 years, he is equally comfortable with images of wildlife, narrative scenes and landscape painting. Viera turns his attention to abstraction with these new works.

The paintings offered in “Reality Revisited” are abstracted versions of many of his earlier works and have never before been exhibited. Like most, he was homebound much of 2020 due to the pandemic but this gave him a chance to reimagine some of his earlier images.

“As a friend pointed out recently, the world has been abstracted in the last year and my paintings, like the world, are sort of the same but also quite different. I didn’t realize it at the time but she was correct; these paintings are a reaction to the abstracted world that all of us lived through during 2020,” said Viera.

The public also is invited to an artists’ reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 12.
